James Robertson Couts

Weatherford, Parker County

(1833-1904) A native of Tennessee and a veteran of the Civil War, James Robertson Couts brought his family to Parker County in the mid-1860s. With proceeds from a cattle drive to California, he opened a bank in Weatherford (now Citizens National Bank). An influential citizen of the town, he left an endowment to Weatherford College in his will. Married twice, Couts was the father of six children. He is buried here next to his first wife, Martha. Recorded -- 1990
