Birthplace of Thomas Mitchell Campbell

Second native Texan to serve as governor. Born here April 22, 1856, the son of Thomas Duncan Campbell and Rachel Moore Campbell. Elected in 1906, he was re-elected in 1908. His administrations were characterized by the passage of a pure food law, attempts to regulate lobbying, reform of the state prison system and regulation of insurance. Under Campbell the Texas State Library and Historical Commission was set up. He died April 1, 1923.
